Root Canal Treatment
What is a Root Canal?
Inside every tooth lies a soft tissue known as the pulp. The pulp contains blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissue that help the tooth grow during development. Once a tooth is fully formed, it can survive without the pulp because it continues to be nourished by the surrounding tissues.
A root canal becomes necessary when the pulp inside the tooth becomes infected or inflamed due to deep decay, a crack or chip, or repeated dental procedures on the tooth. If left untreated, an infected tooth can lead to abscess formation, severe pain, or even tooth loss.
During a root canal, the damaged pulp is removed, and the interior of the tooth is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected. The empty space is then filled with a rubber-like material and sealed, preventing further infection.

Common Signs You May Need a Root Canal
It’s essential to recognize the warning signs of an infected tooth, as early detection can prevent the need for more extensive treatments later on. Some of the most common symptoms that may indicate the need for a root canal include:
Persistent tooth pain
A toothache that lingers for days or weeks, especially when chewing or applying pressure, is a common sign of infection.
Sensitivity to hot or cold
If your tooth is highly sensitive to temperature changes, and the discomfort lingers even after the stimulus is removed, this could indicate damage to the pulp.
Swelling or tenderness
Swelling of the gums near the affected tooth, or the presence of a pimple-like bump (Abscess) on the gums, are signs of infection.
Discoloration of the tooth
A darkened or discolored tooth can be a sign that the nerve inside has been damaged.
